The User Datagram Protocol (UDP) is called connectionless because it allows the direct sending of data packets to recipients without the need for establishing a connection first. Unlike TCP (Transmission Control Protocol), UDP does not perform handshaking procedures to establish and terminate a dedicated connection between the sending and receiving devices. This means that UDP does not guarantee delivery, order, or error checking, making it faster but less reliable than TCP. Its connectionless nature makes it well-suited for applications that require speed and efficiency over reliability, such as streaming and online gaming.
