Southeast Asia is a popular region for digital nomads due to its affordable cost of living, vibrant cultures, and generally good internet connectivity. However, visa requirements for digital nomads can vary significantly from one country to another within the region. It’s important to note that specific visa requirements can change, so always check with the respective embassy or consulate for the most current information. As of my last update, here’s a general overview:
1. Thailand: Thailand introduced a “Smart Visa” aimed at attracting highly skilled professionals, including digital nomads in certain sectors. However, the traditional route for digital nomads has been the use of tourist visas or education visas, with the understanding that actual work should not violate the terms of these visas. Recently, there has been talk about introducing a visa specifically for digital nomads.
2. Indonesia (Bali): Bali is another hotspot for digital nomads. While Indonesia does not offer a visa specifically for digital nomads, many use a social visa (B-211) that allows an initial stay of 60 days, extendable up to four times for 30 days each, totaling 180 days.
