A good example of an SMS service organized into a social network and blog was Twitter in its early days. Initially, Twitter was designed with the idea of allowing users to send and receive short 140-character messages, known as “tweets,” via SMS (Short Message Service). This design allowed for mobile phone users to keep up with updates without needing a mobile internet connection, fostering a form of social networking and microblogging that was quite innovative at the time. Over the years, Twitter has evolved far beyond its SMS roots, but it still retains the core functionality of enabling users to post short messages, now with a higher character limit, to a network of followers.
